The project entailed the full construction and upgrading of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) facilities at Nyahn Health Facility, a rural healthcare center serving a wide population in Todee District. This intervention aimed to strengthen healthcare delivery by ensuring access to safe water, improved sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure in line with UNICEF standards and the Ministry of Health guidelines.
How We Solve This Project
Our implementation strategy was built on assessment, construction, community engagement, and sustainability planning:
Initial Assessment & Planning:
Conducted an evaluation of the facility’s WASH needs.
Identified gaps in water supply, sanitation, and hygiene practices.
Developed technical designs and BOQ for approval by UNICEF.
Construction & Upgrading:
Constructed new toilets and handwashing units to serve both patients and staff.
Installed a borehole water system with a storage tank to guarantee sustainable supply.
Rehabilitated the drainage system to manage wastewater effectively.
Integrated gender-sensitive and disability-friendly access points.
Quality Control & Monitoring:
Engaged in strict supervision to ensure compliance with technical specifications.
Conducted routine inspections and functionality tests on water and sanitation systems.
Reported progress and challenges to UNICEF for accountability.
Capacity Building & Sustainability:
Trained facility staff on WASH facility operation and preventive maintenance.
Developed a maintenance guide and checklist for long-term management.
Worked with local authorities to establish community ownership of the facility.
